Ben Rigby of mobilevoter.org shared a stunning example during his SXSW 2008 Book Author session that warranted a separate conversation. Demonstrating the power of social media to drive political action and reform, he used this Google Earth map as an example:
A project of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, this is simply one draw dropping example [...]

My biggest miss of SXSW 2008 was the postsecret.com video. Thanks to Chris @Ideacity, I easily caught up on the phenomena in this video. More here and here if you want more details, but simply watch the video below. It’s simply one of the most amazing things I’ve seen in a very long time.

Compensating employees for what they actually do rather than the hours they log is not a new idea. Managers will need to re-embrace this preindustrial concept as [...]

This year should prove to be a roller coaster ride for online video, as content and platforms continue to explode. The acquisition of Maven Networks, the success of ABC’s online VOD service, ON-networks, Apple VOD, as well as the bumpy launches so far for Joost and Hulu are just a few examples.
While these start [...]

Despite a downright disturbing URL, Kleenex launches an interesting and simple “branded utility” application online at mykleenextissue.com. Upload your picture and design your own box of Kleenex for only $4.95. Apparently shipping is a bit more pricey though.
Regardless of the price you can be sure that grandmothers, crafters, amateur photographers and [...]

ah yes, gotta love when the tech-geeks get together to name a website…
This new search site entering the biz alongside linkedin and other business directory players is worth watching over the course of 2008. Aggregating openly accessible listings from the web, Spock is a people search engine. This isn’t a new concept but [...]

Interesting strategy by NYTimes. Paralleling a long time up-sell tactic of cable companies, telecoms and other new media-technology providers, note the the tip-in in a recent NYT (yes I still get the Sunday Times, a hold out of long past NY dwelling and kindof like my past gym memberships. I rarely visit my print [...]

Yup. That ain’t a typo.
Bryan at Ideacity share’s Byrne’s thoughts on Social Hateworking. From left field? Not really. For those of you that are David Byrne fans this shouldn’t be a surprise. With his participation in SXSW, creating artistic commentary via Powerpoint, and his information architect porn (well it’s not porn - but for any [...]

Honestly, not trying to be the man on the corner with the “end is nigh” signs, but a flurry of articles and the Google Radio announcement seem to be a clear sign of what’s next. A huge opportunity (if not simply a “duh”) for some, and a scary overdue realization for others.
Check out IBM’s Institute [...]
